A native North Carolinian, and the son of a museum director, Dusty grew up in Durham and spent much of his youth as a volunteer with the North Carolina Museum of Life and Science.  Prior to joining Historic sites in 2010, he served fourteen years as Curator of Exhibits with the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences and eight years as Curator and later Curator/Director of the Raleigh City Museum. While taking a break to enjoy time as a stay at home dad, he worked part time, temporary or contract, positions with the North Carolina Museum of History and the Ackland Art Museum.

He holds a BS in Biology from Appalachian State University.
