Fried Apple Pies

Pie Filling

  • 2 cups dried apples
  • water
  • sugar to taste
  • cinnamon to taste

Place dried apples in a large saucepan and cover with water. Simmer until tender. Add sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg to taste. Cool mixture.



  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 cup lard
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 10 Tbsp ice water
  • 2 Tbsp vinegar
  1. Cut in 1 cup of lard or Crisco with 3 cups of all-purpose flour and 1 tsp of salt. Mix until the mixture resembles small peas.
  2. Add in 1 egg, 10 Tbsp ice water, and 2 Tbsp vinegar.
  3. Mix thoroughly. Chill the dough.
  4. Roll dough into balls the size of a ping pong ball.


To Make the Fried Pies

Roll a ball of pastry dough into a thin circle about 5-inches across. Place 2 Tbsp of the apple mixture in the center of the circle. Fold one side over and crimp the edges with a fork. Fry in a small amount of oil on medium heat until lightly brown.
