State Capitol SocietyBecoming a pillar of society has never been so easy or so rewarding.

Join the State Capitol Society and help preserve one of the finest examples of Greek Revival architecture in the United States—North Carolina's 1840 State Capitol.

Membership is offered at eight levels to allow broad-based participation by the greatest number of North Carolinians. For more than 150 years, the people of North Carolina have shown great pride in this magnificent building. The State Capitol Society is now counting on your generosity to continue the painstaking—and expensive—process of restoration. For those most generous donors, the Society offers membership categories named after the orders of the Capitol's impressive columns: Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian; with the highest level named for the Capitol Crown.

The Society's mission is to increase awareness of the historical significance of the 1840 Capitol and to serve as a financial resource for its ongoing restoration and educational efforts.

Private sponsors and donors have helped with the repair of many of the Capitol's original furnishings, provided replicas of the 1840 legislative chairs, researched original interior paint colors, and created educational programs.

Much more work is needed, however, including repairing the original legislative desks, providing classroom and outreach materials for school students statewide, and creating "living history" activities.

More than 150,000 visitors—including almost 75,000 school children from across North Carolina—relive the rich history of this extraordinary building every year. Volunteer and staff guides introduce them to the Capitol's glorious past, its splendid architectural features, and its prominent place in the history of North Carolina.

Help preserve the past for future generations. Become a part of the history of North Carolina's State Capitol. Join the State Capitol Society.
