German Christmas in Colonial Carolina-Special Tours

Event Description

Join us at Alamance Battleground to learn about the traditions, foodways, and culture of North Carolina's German communities as we celebrate the holidays with our special guided tours, "German Christmas in Colonial Carolina." By the 1770s, the backcountry of North Carolina boasted several communities of Germans who had settled here after migrating from their original settlements in Pennsylvania. They brought with them traditions and culture that still shape our region today.

Our German Christmas guided tour will be offered daily at 2 p.m. during the month of December and the first week in January. Additional tours will be available on Saturdays at 11 a.m. Learn about German settlement in central North Carolina during the 1770s, and find out which Christmas traditions from Germany have survived into the modern day. Participants will also receive a take-home pack of crafts based on German traditions dating back to the 18th century, and recipies for traditional German foods to try at home! Reservations required, tour groups limited to 15 people, masks required for entry to historic structures. Tickets are $2. Reserve online now at the  Alamance Battleground State Historic Site Facebook Event page.
