Gold Panning Opens April 2nd at Reed Gold Mine

Event Description

Reed Gold Mine will officially open the 2019 panning season on April 2, 2019. Anyone 8 and older can try to "strike it rich" by panning through the rocks and dirt in the designated panning area. Reed staff will be on hand to help visitors work their way through the pans, providing instruction and history of gold panning in North Carolina.

Gold panning was one of the first ways John Reed and his partners looked for gold along Little Meadow Creek, washing the dirt dug alongside the creek over 200 years ago. Come relive the glory days of gold mining in North Carolina and hopefully take home an interesting souvenir to show family and friends. Visitors may take home any gold (or neat rocks) found in the panning area.

Participants must be 8 or older to pan by themselves. Any children under 8 can pan with the help of an adult due to the height of the panning troughs.

Panning tickets are $3.21 each, tax included. Visitors may purchase as many tickets as they wish for this activity.
