Race, Gender, and Jim Crow Lecture Series- Dr. Tolbert at Charlotte Hawkins Brown Museum

This summer, join us for our "Race, Gender, and Jim Crow Lecture Series." These talks will focus on a variety of topics centering around race, gender, and Jim Crow. All lectures are in Kimball Hall and begin at 6:30pm. These events are FREE.

On October 24th, Dr. Lisa Tolbert will give a speech titled "'We Want the Business of the Colored Man' : African American Shoppers and Self-Service in a Culture of Segregation." Her speech will explore the small-town roots of self-service stores and the reasons for their popularity in the segregated South.

Dr. Tolbert is an Associate Professor of History at UNC Greensboro where she teaches on American Cultural History.
