Town Creek Under the Stars: Taurid Conjunction - CANCELED

Event Description

In light of Governor Cooper’s state of emergency declaration and guidance regarding canceling or postponing large gatherings in an effort to limit the spread of COVID-19, Town Creek Under the Stars:  Taurid Conjunction has been canceled:

While we are disappointed not to be able to offer this experience, the health and safety of our visitors, volunteers and staff is always our first priority. If this event can be rescheduled, we will announce s new date in the future.
At this time, our Historic Site remains open for individual visits. However, if visitors are currently sick or belong to a group at high risk per the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services, they are encouraged to postpone their visit. During this time our Site is taking these extra precautionary measures:
• More frequent cleaning of high-traffic areas.
• Frequent handwashing by staff.
• Encouraging staff to telework to the greatest extent possible.

Join us for an evening beneath one of the last great dark sky sites in the North Carolina piedmont! The event kicks off at 7pm with the auditorium presentation “What’s Up?” – an introduction to the planisphere, an overview of sights to be seen this evening, and some of the lore surrounding them. Then, beginning at 7:30pm, Site telescopes will be available, or bring your own, to observe the conjunction of the Moon, Venus, and Pleiades, among other heavenly sights. Participants should dress for the cold and may bring a red light to help them see in the darkness. Chairs and blankets welcome!  Free, registration required via the Registration link.
