From 11am-3pm across the entire campus of the Charlotte Hawkins Brown Museum enjoy music, food, art, and explore the vast Black history across North Carolina Historic Sites. Join us on Saturday, April 26th for a day of sensory learning and fun at Vance Birthplace! Patch-a-Palooza welcomes families with K-8th grade children to try their hands at various historic crafts from making butter and candles to writing with a quill pen. Each learning station has a stamp, and children who earn a stamp from every station will receive a Vance Birthplace patch along with their take-home crafts.

Did you know that North Carolina’s first public reading of the Declaration of Independence took place in Halifax on August 1st, 1776? Join historical interpreters as they reenact events surrounding the joyous news of American independence from Britain. At 12:00pm, see a reenactor portray Cornelius Harnett, President of the Council of Safety, read the Declaration for the first time in North Carolina.
