February 1 marks the start of #BlackHistoryMonth! To commemorate the African diaspora and the impact Black culture has made on United States history, we will re-open our Africa to Carolina exhibit to the public. The Africa to Carolina initiative serves to identify, acknowledge, and mark each site in the state where enslaved Africans disembarked directly from the African Continent. In our self-guided exhibit, visitors can learn about the experiences of enslaved Africans who survived the Atlantic slave trade to North Carolina. Stop by the visitor center for free admission into the exhibit.
