This short guided night hike at Horton Grove is an evening exploration of historic buildings and trails. Along the way, the group will pause for moments of reflection to read excerpts from North Carolina slave narratives. These passages reveal how enslaved North Carolinians used night as a time for refuge and resistance. As you finish your trail walk, you will be able to view the rising full moon over the fields at Horton Grove.
Come prepared for walking and weather! We will walk about 1.25 miles at a slow pace, with multiple stops along the way. Please wear sturdy walking shoes, and bring a headlamp or flashlight. Staff will provide some extra lights, but we will also intentionally spend some time in darkness during the program.
