Historic Cooking Demonstration: Dontavius Williams

Stagville welcomes back Dontavius Williams (of The Chronicles of Adam) for an outdoor cooking demonstration interpreting the cooking traditions of enslaved people in the Carolinas. On Saturday, September 28, 2024, explore the history of food and cooking with this demonstration at the historic slave quarters at Horton Grove. This hearth cooking demonstration opens up discussion and dialogue about food, culture, cooks, and memory. 

Dontavius Williams is a public historian, interpreter, and storyteller who specializes in interpreting the history of enslaved people. He has been in the field of public history and storytelling for over 10 years and now travels the country interpreting the history of slavery at various historic sites, schools, and churches and community events.

This demonstration will be outdoors at Horton Grove. Please prepare for the weather. 

Some seating will be provided at the demonstration site.
