A Walk in Their Shoes: CSS Neuse Museum Living History and Tour (FREE ADMISSION DAY)

-

Are you curious about the businesses that operated in downtown Kinston during the Civil War? Did you know that Kinston had a Free Black community during that time? Have you ever wondered what women and children did while men were off fighting in the war? Were there any battles fought in Kinston? Do you know where the CSS Neuse ironclad was outfitted in Kinston and who served on the crew? What were the two largest battles fought in North Carolina? If you're interested in learning about the history of Lenoir County during the 1860s, join us for a day of exploration. Our staff and volunteers will be located throughout the museum, offering living history demonstrations and resources to help answer your questions about life in North Carolina during the Civil War. There will also be a guided tour of the museum's first floor at 11 am and a guided tour of the mezzanine at 2 pm.

Some of the living history demonstrations and displays include:

Sailor Life (Naval Display)
Textiles
Mourning practices and Embalming
