Dennis Harper, one of the leading experts on the Battle of Wyse Fork, will be conducting the tour.

Harper will tell the story of what happened during three days of battle as he leads the group from place to place where significant events of the engagement took place.

The Battle of Wyse Fork took place on March 7, 8, and 9, 1865. It was the second-largest land battle in North Carolina. Its purpose was to prevent or delay Union troops from meeting up with General William Tecumseh Sherman’s forces heading for North Carolina. Sherman was coming up from South Carolina after his infamous march to the sea (Atlanta to Savannah) that left a burned path of destruction across the states of Georgia and South Carolina.
