Thank you for your interest in volunteering here at Historic Bath State Historic Site! We are so happy and grateful for your interest in our site. Volunteering at a Historic Site puts you on the front line- you are possibly the first person a visitor will meet upon arriving in Bath. We understand that not everyone feels comfortable giving tours, working the cash register, or doing living history demonstrations. But never fear, if you are interested in volunteering, we will find a place for you.

There are a variety of volunteer opportunities here at Historic Bath.

Visitor Center Volunteers
These are the people that greet visitors when the walk in, and provide general information about the site and the town. These are also the people that show the orientation film and help staff the gift shop.

Special Project Volunteers
These are the people that help us when it comes to aiding with our Collections, Archives and Educational Programming. It is a ‘behind-the-scenes’ opportunity that is very rare and different. These are the people that help with the planning, organizing, and implementing new programs.

Maintenance / Gardening Volunteers
These are the people who help keep our site beautiful. They may be asked to work in one of our gardens, to assist with maintenance projects such as mending/painting fences, scraping and painting historic buildings, and landscape work.

Special Events Volunteers
These are the people that help with special programing. Things like Bath Fest, the Memorial Day Celebration, Past Times Summer Camp, etc. Help with set-up and clean-up, as well as staffing during the event will be asked of these special event volunteers.

Tour Guide Volunteers
These are the people that take visitors through our historic buildings. A tour script will be provided, but tour guide volunteers are encouraged to make the tour “their own”. Focus on the things about the buildings that interest you.

Living History Demonstrators
These are the people that help with Living History Demonstrations. Living History Demonstrators will have the opportunity to convey to visitors, how certain tasks would have been accomplished during the late 1700s and mid-1800s. Additional training will be required.

Volunteers will be given a blue Historic Sites shirt, that they will be asked to wear on the days that they volunteer. Thank you again for your interest in volunteering here at Historic Bath State Historic Site, and I am looking forward to working with each of you!
