Volunteer

Thank you for your interest in sharing your valuable time to the Thomas Wolfe Memorial State Historic Site. Volunteers play a vital role in keeping the works of Thomas Wolfe alive, and sharing the story of the Wolfe family and The Old Kentucky Home in Asheville. Our devoted volunteers provide assistance to the staff in many ways, including, staffing the visitor center, greeting guests, and selling merchandise in the gift shop. Volunteers also help with special events, education groups, and lead tours of the house.

The Thomas Wolfe Memorial could not be a success without your generous donation of volunteer time and effort. We would love for you to join our team. If you are interested in becoming a part of our enthusiastic and knowledgeable volunteer family, please fill out the Volunteer Application (below) and email it to Kayla Pressley Seay at kayla.seay@ncdcr.gov or send it to 52 N. Market Street, Asheville, NC 28801.

If you have questions, please contact Kayla Pressley Seay at (828) 253-8304 or kayla.seay@ncdcr.gov.

Internships

The Thomas Wolfe Memorial offers several opportunities for hands-on learning and first-hand experience with on-site training and work experience. All internships are un-paid but make great resume builders and may qualify for college credit. We request that students work 8 hours/week for one semester or equivalent time period, and can customize as necessary to fulfill program-specific requirements. Below is a general description of some of the duties the intern will be assigned.

  • Provide guided tours of the Old Kentucky Home
  • Answer questions related to history, literature, and local attractions and eateries
  • Sell merchandise
  • Assist with artifact cleaning, training provided
  • Assist in creating exhibits
  • Conduct research for programs and exhibits
  • Conduct adult group and school group tours and activities

For more information, contact Kayla Pressley Seay at (828) 253-8304 or kayla.seay@ncdcr.gov, or fill out and send Kayla the internship application (below).
