Our Mission

To connect all people to the history and memory of slavery, by sharing Stagville’s places and stories to inspire transformative learning, healing, and connection.

What We Do

Preservation
We preserve Historic Stagville’s historic buildings and land as places of knowledge, learning, memory, healing, and reflection.

Ethical Interpretation
We ethically interpret the full history of chattel slavery in tours, exhibits, events, and visitor experiences.

Genealogy
We share genealogical research about enslaved families, connecting the past to the present.

Descendant Engagement
We expand partnerships with and commitments to the Stagville descendant communities. We imagine new models for relationships between a historic site of slavery and descendant communities.

Community Partnerships
We collaborate with academic and community partners to support and share new research about Stagville.
