Visit the North Carolina State Capitol

The North Carolina State Capitol has been the active capitol building of the state since it opened in June of 1840. At one point, the building housed the office of the Governor, the Supreme Court and the chambers of the General Assembly, as well as various other state offices. Visit the Capitol today to learn more about state government, citizenship, and the history of North Carolina and our capital city!

Starting July 8, 2024, visitors are welcome to take self-guided tours of the building Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., and Saturdays from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Free public guided tours are available on Saturdays at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
