The North Carolina State Capitol, completed in 1840, is one of the finest and best-preserved examples of a major civic building in the Greek Revival style of architecture. It is the active Capitol of the state and a National Historic Landmark.

Hours and Location

Visitors are welcome to take self-guided tours of the building Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., and Saturdays from 10 a.m. -5 p.m. Free public guided tours are available on Saturdays at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. No reservations are needed for Saturday tours, which are first come, first serve. Parking for the Capitol is available at metered spaces around the square or in the NC Museum/Government Center parking lot located at 100 E Jones St. All group tours and field trips are scheduled through Capital Area Visitor Services.
