Fort Fisher will commemorate its 158th anniversary with the program, 'With Artillery, War is Made,' Saturday, January 14, 2023 from 10 am - 4 pm. Free and open to the public, this living history program will focus on the artillery at Fort Fisher during the American Civil War.

Visit Bennett Place during the Christmas season and witness how this occasion was celebrated in the Piedmont Carolinas during the American Civil War. Living historians will decorate the farm in a typical modest fashion of the time.

In 1752, the American colonies adopted the Gregorian calendar, resulting in the beloved date of Christmas - January 5th - being moved to December 25th. In rebellion, some North Carolinians began to celebrate both dates.
