Join us on June 25th 10am-3pm for the Aycock Country Fair. This is a free event. Explore the rich social & political history of North Carolina. Learn about election & voting laws throughout the state's history & the difficulty many citizens had in casting their ballots. Also, ECU history professor Dr. Karin L Ziphf will discuss her book, Labor of innocents: Forced Apprenticeship in North Carolina: 1715-1919. Have a bit of fun playing historic games, sliding on an inflatable slide, & shopping at craft vendor booths. Peruse a vintage tractor display.

Join us on Saturday, April 30 10am-3pm to learn about 19th century farm life. Enjoy the smell of pork shoulders cooking on a barbecue pit. Watch as historic interpreters shear sheep. Get a hands-on experience in skirting the wool. See demonstrations of carding and spinning wool into yarn. Then get your hands dirty working in a garden. Interact with historic interpreters as they weave baskets, make rope, and practice the art of blacksmithing.

the Wilmington Race riot was a turning point in North Carolina history. Following the election of 1898, a white mob overthrew Wilmington, N.C.’s legitimately elected government, destroyed the local Black-owned newspaper office and terrorized the African American community. The mob chased Black officials and community leaders out of the city and killed many African Americans in widespread attacks. Because of this incident, more than 2,000 Black residents left the city permanently, turning it from a Black-majority to a white-majority city.

Make a candle, climbing bear, an herb bag, and watch blacksmithing demonstrations. Listen to music by the Harmony Boys of Mount Olive 11:30-12:30 and the Waterbound Dulcimers 3:00- 4:00. Purchase lunch or a snack from a food truck. Event Fee $5.00 for ages 5 & up. Children 4 and under free
