Experience North Carolina's internal power struggle on the eve of revolution! On May 16, 1771, a group of backcountry farmers who called themselves the "Regulation" met the North Carolina militia of Governor William Tryon in open battle. "Fight for the Backcountry" will feature a reenactment and will explore life in the backcountry in the early 1770s, as the American colonies stood on the brink of revolution. A small Revolutionary War engagement occurred on the Regulator battlefield on 5 March 1781. Ten years after the Battle of Alamance, and approximately two weeks before the Battle of Guilford Courthouse, soldiers of the Delaware Light Infantry commanded by Captain Robert Kirkwood fought a small contingent of British sentries from the Army of Lord Charles Cornwallis.Join us on Saturday, March 1st, there will be a reenactment of the skirmish at 1 PM.
At our regularly scheduled 1 PM guided tour on Friday, September 13th, there will be additional information focusing on two local participants at the battle in 1771. These men also fought at the Revolutionary Battle of Lindley’s Mill on 13 September 1781, ten years later.The tour will begin at the visitor center at 1 PM.

Today any US citizen aged 18 and over regardless of race or gender is eligible to participate in the voting process, however this was not always the case. In the 18th century who could vote? How did voting take place? Learn about voting procedures on Saturday, November 2nd, the presentation will take place at 1 PM in the Historic house.
