Join us as we launch an evening component to our commemoration of the surrender at Bennett Place. This event will honor the lives of enslaved people in North Carolina who gained their freedom at the end of the Civil War.

Join us as we commemorate the 159th anniversary of the Civil War surrender at the Bennett farmhouse! The daytime event features costumed interpretation of military and civilian life during the Civil War. The event is $5 for adults and $2 for children and seniors.

Join us on Saturday April 20, 2024 as we celebrate Earth Day!For this event, we're proud to partner with Duke University students to highlight how history & science can go hand-in-hand to teach us about the world around us.  At 1pm, Duke graduate student Kalei Porter will lead a guided tour of the nature trail to explore how history and science meet.

Join us at Bennett Place State Historic Site for our Civil War School Days program on April 17, 2024. Students rotate through multiple stations where Historic Sites staff and costumed living historians demonstrate what it was like for soldiers and civilians to live through the American Civil War. Experience how soldiers trained, how people mailed letters through the postal service, learn about Civil War era medicine, and much more!

On December 16th from 10am-4pm, Bennett Place will holding our annual Christmas in the Piedmont during the Civil War event. Witness how Soldiers and Civilians try to keep there spirits up during four years of war. On going living history will be happening around the farm, Also Santa will be in the Parlor of the Bennett house to meet and greet visitors, and you can tell him what you want for Christmas.

Following the American Civil War, a “Decoration Day” began in communities across America remembering soldiers who gave the ultimate sacrifice. Senator John A. Logan, a former Union officer on staff with Major General William T. Sherman, was instrumental in making this a formal national day honoring our fallen soldiers, which became Memorial Day. Join military living historians representing the American soldier of all time periods throughout our nation’s history.
April 4, 2023, 10am - April 5, 2023, 3pm
This program is designed for public, private and homeschool groups to come out and learn about the military and civilian aspects of the war from living historians. There will be stations available in the historic area for students and adults to meet and listen to historians discuss different topics such as soldier life, Civil War flags, the postal system, the signal corp and much more.

This program will be broken down into two time slots: 10:00 -12:00 for the morning and 1:00 - 3:00 for the afternoon.

Reservations are required and we are taking them now.
December 17, 2022, 10am - 4pm
Visit Bennett Place during the Christmas season and witness how this occasion was celebrated in the Piedmont Carolinas during the American Civil War. Living historians will decorate the farm in a typical modest fashion of the time. There will be cooking demonstrations in the kitchen house, Christmas decorations and packages in the main house, soldiers will be on hand to demonstrate Christmas in the field and of course, a visit with Ole St. Nick. Complimentary hot apple cider will be available. There will also be a bake sale where you can purchase some sweet treats.

Under the glow of candlelight, you can take a special guided tour around the farm and experience first-hand how soldiers and civilians experienced the holidays during a time of war. Tours will take place every 15 minutes and tickets will be required. Tickets will be available through Eventbrite. Groups will be limited to 20 people. Complimentary hot apple cider will be available.
