Volunteer Opportunities

Are you interested in learning about and sharing the history of western North Carolina in the early 1800s?  Consider volunteering at the Vance Birthplace!

We are seeking friendly and energetic people who can assist for two or more hours at a time. You may volunteer a few times a year or multiple times per month. Volunteers will serve as front line representatives of the historic site and work side-by-side with staff to greet visitors, answer questions, provide information, and make visitors feel welcome.

Internship Program

Are you interested in a career in public history?  Consider becoming an intern at the Vance Birthplace! Our internship program gives students an introduction to public history work by offering projects in collections management, interpretation and programming, exhibit design, historic research, and social media marketing.

Applicants should submit the Internship Application (see below) to Lauren May.
